pH Miracle Diet

The pH miracle diet is the latest diet to be reckoned with. Also known as the alkaline diet or the Young Diet, named after creator Robert Young, it is a totally different approach from the high protein, low carbohydrate dieting fad which has been around for the past few years.

Popular diets seem to go out of season as quickly as they appear. The low-fat diet was popular in the 90s, but was replaced by low-carbohydrate diets such as Protein Power, Atkins the South Beach Diet, and Sugarbusters. When they too did not produce the desired results, people changed track and this explains the buzz behind the pH Miracle diet. Many doctor and nutritionists agree that this diet provides holistic benefit to our body.

The theory behind the pH miracle diet is that of complementary foods to complement our body’s pH balance. Our body’s pH is slightly alkaline, and the presence of alkaline minerals such as potassium, magnesium, sodium, and calcium are important to prevent us from falling prey to chronic diseases. In order to maximize the effects of these minerals, we should consume alkaline foods and avoid acidic foods.

The American diet is heavily loaded with acid from packaged foods, animal proteins, caffeine, and sugar which will cause our acidic level to increase dramatically. The fundamentals of the pH diet is to avoid these foods. Do not deceive yourself by thinking that consuming them in small quantities regularly will not have that much of an effect. The truth is, whatever you eat will be accumulated and the impact will be lasting on your health.

The food pyramid advocates a well-rounded diet comprising food from the “grow”, “glow” and “go” categories. Enhancing this diet by incorporating the pH miracle diet will magnify the health benefits you get to enjoy. Adhering strictly to the pH diet will mean abundance of essential alkaline minerals and avoidance of harmful acidic foods.

You may be surprised that the food that we usually eat are actually deemed as food that we must avoid according to the pH diet. The FDA usually makes recommendations on healthy foods, and whole-wheat products is one on the list. However, whole-wheat products are acidic and is classified together with millet, oats, and rice, under the category of harmful foods. We should change our diet to that of buckwheat, quinoa and spelt. These alkaline grains will benefit our body so much more.

Besides wheat products, all meat and dairy products are also acidic. An alternative source of protein intake is goat milk. If you are a vegetarian, tofu, beans, and certain nuts and seeds will provide you with the proteins you need. Also, many vegetables, with the exception of mushrooms, have great alkalinizing effects. Be more selective in your fruits consumption, as only grapefruit, coconut, lemon, and lime are alkaline.

All this being said, however, there is no scientific proof to substantiate the claims of the pH miracle diet. Many mainstream doctors do not acknowledge the benefits of this diet, although it has its origins in Chinese medicine and holistic medicine. Taking in account the pH balance theory behind the diet to eat more vegetables and cut down on processed food is a good general health advice that we can adopt, even though you may not want to follow closely to the pH miracle diet.

Critics of this diet debunk the benefits; if so many of us are eating consciously, i.e., having a balanced diet and eating in moderation, this diet will not significantly enhance our health further. However, this acid/alkaline balance theory does have its supporters, and is currently under study by Dr Neil Solomon from the United Nations, who is researching on this diet at John Hopkins’ University. The new evidence will put the pH Miracle diet at a better standing with that of other diets, and soon many will be able to enjoy a revolutionized impact on their health.
