The Fat Smash Diet
Some detox and weight loss diets restrict food intake too much, that anyone would somewhat find it hard to stick with them from start to finish. The result: dieters tend to go back to their bad eating habits, and end up with more toxins in the body and excess weight than when they began the program. Fortunately, the Fat Smash Diet is based on a sensible approach to healthier eating habits.
What it’s All About
The Fat Smash Diet was developed by a doctor named Ian K. Smith. He developed the plan when he was invited to be a weight loss consultant and judge in a reality TV show called Celebrity Fit Club. The show featured celebrities trying to lose weight, and it aired from 2002 to 2006. After being part of the show, Smith came up with a book in 2006, entitled The Fat Smash Diet: The Last Diet You’ll Ever Need, based on the same plan he used on the celebrities on the said reality TV show.
Divided into 4 phases, the Fat Smash Diet is based on the principle that weight loss is achieved by undergoing a detox process and getting rid of bad eating habits. This approach of smashing wrong methods of shedding off excess pounds will yield a lifetime of being in good shape. The 4 phases of the diet are as follows:
Phase 1
This phase of the Fat Smash Diet is also known as Detox. It lasts for 9 days, and is designed to eliminate bad eating habits, and at the same time rapidly flush out all accumulated toxins inside the body. Basically, phase 1 is just like turning into a vegan. With the exception of potatoes and avocados, you can have all the fruits and vegetables you like – raw, steamed or grilled – and eat 4 to 5 times everyday. In addition, drinking plenty of water is recommended during this phase, to hasten the elimination of toxins.
Aside from unlimited fruits and vegetables, you may also have beans and tofu. Brown rice, oatmeal, skim or soy milk, low-fat yogurt, egg whites and herbal teas are also permitted but in limited portions. A little bit of olive oil may be used for salad dressing. Skipping meals is not allowed; one must eat when it’s time to eat, hungry or not.
Phase 2
Also known as the Foundation, phase 2 of the Fat Smash Diet lasts for 3 weeks. Phase 2 is just like phase 1 when it comes to the number of meals you have to take per day and all the good stuff you can have, although in here there are new foods introduced into the diet. Cheese, whole eggs, sugar, whole-grain cereals, butter, fat-free mayonnaise, coffee, diet soda and lean meats such as chicken, turkey and fish (no pork) are allowed together with those included in phase 1, although in limited portions.
Phase 3
Lasting for 4 weeks, phase 3 basically embodies the principles of Detox and Foundation, plus the further addition of allowable foods. For the first time while on the Smash Fat Diet, this phase introduces pasta and bread. However, as with the other foods in phases 1 and 2, serving portions are limited, except for fruits and vegetables. If you greatly miss having desserts on the table, fret not, for this phase, also known as Construction, allows some that are listed in the book.
Phase 4
The final part and labeled as Temple, phase 4 enables you to enjoy all the foods allowed from phase 1 to phase 3, but this time with the addition of potatoes, white rice and other starches. A few servings of wine or beer every week is also okay. When you reach phase 4, you are guaranteed to have control over the amount of foods that goes into your mouth. That’s why even when you are allowed to have sweets, chips and pizza once more during this part of the Fat Smash Diet, your cravings or overeating tendencies are abolished. This final stage, as promised by Smith, will last for a lifetime.
Promotion of an Overall Healthy Lifestyle
Again, the Smash Fat Diet prohibits skipping of meals. In addition, one must have a regular dose of exercise 5 days every week, with each session lasting from 25-60 minutes. Phase 1 is focused on detoxification and getting rid of cravings for unhealthy food items, while the remaining 3 phases enable the dieter to stick to healthier eating habits, thus enabling weight loss.
Once the dieter becomes accustomed to eating healthy food selections at the right serving portions, he or she will be able to carry this over for a lifetime, enjoying years of having a desirable weight and overall healthy lifestyle.
